Bio/Interest

Jessica Wells, MA, is a fourth year Clinical Doctor of Audiology student at the University of Pittsburgh. She is currently completing her audiology externship at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh where she is experiencing the variety of diagnostic testing and treatment techniques used within pediatric audiology.  Jessica graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences in 2009 with her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a certificate in American Sign Language. Jessica obtained her Master of Arts in Audiology in 2012 from the University of Pittsburgh in conjunction with the Clinical Doctoral of Audiology program.

Jessica has always had a strong focus toward working with the pediatric population. It is because of her desire and commitment in the area of pediatric audiology that she was awarded a grant for the education of pediatric audiologists from the Office of Special Education Programs through the Department of Education.  She completed her audiology research with Dr. Deborah Moncrieff where she looked at the presence of amblyaudia, a specific type of auditory processing disorder, within a group of children with social and behavioral disorders. Jessica is currently interested in looking at the psychosocial effects that hearing loss and progressive disorders have on the adolescent population.

Jessica has experience volunteering with children of underserved and unreached populations including a Mexican school for the Deaf, Native American orphanage in Arizona and coaching basketball on the North Side of Pittsburgh.  Her goal is to work as a pediatric audiologist in an underserved area, whether that be at home in the states or across the world.
