Pedal 2 DC 4 DS

The “PEDAL 2DC 4DS” was formed by a group of parents and other people who have been blessed by someone in their lives with Down syndrome.  Pedal 2 DC 4 DS is an organized bike ride from Meyersdale, PA to Washington, DC in support of the Down Syndrome Center at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.  The ride will benefit the Down Syndrome Center of Western Pennsylvania, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, UPMC.  The Down Syndrome Center provides families with information about Down syndrome.  It also provides specialty health care to children, adolescents and adults with Down syndrome.  They work with families to locate community services. The Directors of the Down Syndrome Center work with the Down syndrome Medical Interest Group (a national and international consortium of professionals)  to investigate medical and developmental challenges in individuals with Down syndrome.

The ride will occur the week of the National Down Syndrome Congress annual convention.  The purpose of the convention is for families and professionals from around the globe to gather together and learn the latest information from experts about Down syndrome.  This year, the convention is in Washington DC.  The “PEDAL 2DC 4DS” is a perfect opportunity to help increase the awareness of people with Down syndrome, some of whom will be participating in the ride.

This year’s ride is organized by former LEND trainee and current Children’s Hospital Nurse Educator for Same Day Surgery/PACU, Pam DeGeorge.  The bike ride begins on Sunday, July 15 and ends on Friday, July 20.  Each day’s ride is between 32 and 42 miles and the cost to ride $862, which includes lodging each night of the trip and most meals.  To register, contact Gail Hall at 301-722-4887.  For additional information regarding the ride, contact Pam DeGeorge at 412-692-6694 or pamela.degeorge@chp.edu.
